The 2009 NFoM Board Members
Chair: Autumn Cook
After spending her youth traveling the world in an Air Force family, Autumn is happy to call Omaha home. She and her husband have four children, three of whom were born with a midwife. Autumn holds a B.A. in Journalism, with a minor in Music. She has worked in PR in various capacities, and as a childbirth educator certified in the Bradley Method. However, the bulk of her career has been as a full-time mother. She serves in the children’s ministry for her church and enjoys keeping up on current affairs, as well as reading and listening to the classics.
Vice-Chair: Lenetta Kuehn
Lenetta lives south of Kearney where her husband, Jim, farms and raises cattle. They have one daughter, who was born in a hospital attended by a CNM. Lenetta has a B.S. from Doane College in Business Administration. She is currently the proofreader for the local newspaper, village treasurer for her small town, and writes an occasional grant. She recently ended a five-year stint on the Two Rivers Public Health Department Board of Health.
Secretary: Jessica Freeman
Jessica is married to Chris Marks. She is mother to Dorothy (born in a hospital
in NY), Gabriel (born at home with two midwives in NY) and Patrick (born
underwater at home in NE). Jessica earned a Bachelor of Music and Performer's
Certificate in Organ from Eastman School of Music. Prior to moving to Nebraska,
Jessica worked for several churches as organist, accompanist, and choir
director. Currently she is serving as the Treasurer for the Lincoln Music Teachers Association as well as the Teacher
Coordinator for LMTA's Music Outreach Program, which helps provide children in
need with music lessons.
Treasurer: Chandra Stewart
Chandra lives in York, where she attended college and received her Associate of
Science Degree in 2005. She is married to Kyle, and they have three young
children. They had a homebirth for their third. In
addition to staying home with her kids, Chandra is also a DONA-certified birth
doula.
Fundraising Chair: April Segura
April was born at home. She is now wife to Juan and mama to Ailani and Jaylen. Both were born at home underwater. April has a passion for the Hispanic people as she studied for 2 years in Ecuador. She now works part time at home as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor with the WIC Program and helps lead a Spanish Mom's group in south Lincoln.
Public Relations Chair: Shaye Miller
Shaye lives in Chadron where her husband is an Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Composition. Their first two children were born via cesarean while their third was born in a home birth attended by a CNM. Shaye holds a BA in Music, a Masters of Library Science and a Masters of Education. Her professional teaching experience ranges from kindergarten up through college and she has served both school and academic libraries in various capacities. Today Shaye enjoys homeschooling her children, advocating through social media, and teaching Information Literacy as an adjunct instructor.
Legislative Chair: Heather Swanson, MSN, APRN-CNM, IBCLC
Heather lives in Wilcox. She has a MSN Nurse-Midwifery specialty from UNM College of Nursing; and her BSN and post masters certificate are a Family Nurse Practitioner specialty from UNMC College of Nursing. She is a nursing instructor at UNMC-CON Kearney. |
